Course Duration : 2 Years
Eligibility : MS., DO or DNB in Ophthalmology
Stipend : Rs 40,000/- Per Month
No of Seats : 2 Per Year
Goal:
To enable an ophthalmologist become proficient in various techniques of cataract surgery and capable to manage an independent eye hospital.
Medical skills:
Excellent refraction skills, keratometry and Biometry skills.
Diagnostic skills such as interpretation of visual fields, gonioscopy, applanation tonometry etc.
Diagnosis and referral of retinal disorders.
Diagnosis and medical management of glaucoma.
Management of ophthalmic emergencies.
Ability to identify strabismus, administer amblyopia treatment and refer patients to paediatric ophthalmology.
Surgical skills:
Cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation including SICS, Phacoemulsification, Chalazion, small lid lesions, Lid lacerations, anterior segment trauma, Pterygium.
Procedure skills:
Yag laser capsulotomy
Peripheral Iridotomy
Teaching and Education:
Weekly seminars, and case presentations
To attend and present in various state and national conferences.
Research and publications
Maintain logbook
Note: During the fellowship period the candidate might get to do approximately 300 SICS and 200 phaco surgeries. Number of surgeries may vary depending on the surgeon skill, his/her enthusiasm and contribution to the hospital.
