Brief Profile of Board Members:

Dr. V.K. Raju, President

He was born in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. He earned his medical degree from Andhra University and completed an Ophthalmology Residency and Fellowship at the Royal Eye group of Hospitals in London, England. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He moved to the United States in 1976 and has since resided in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he is currently Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at West Virginia University (WVU), the section chief of the Ophthalmology department at Monongalia General Hospital, runs a private practice, and is the Founder and Medical Director of the Eye Foundation of America (EFA), a registered non-profit organization.

In the past 4 decades, he has donated more than 1.5 million dollars of his money to help build hospitals in India, establish Training Programs, and provide services to the needy patients, with the goal of eliminating avoidable blindness in parts of the world plagued by poverty and poor access to medical care.  Through persistence, diligence, and collaboration, his vision of affordable and accessible health care has provided many needy individuals with the invaluable gift of sight. In children, the focus of EFA efforts, this gift results in 75 years of a full and productive life. “If blindness is preventable, then let us do it big”, Dr. Raju told the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Journal (Spring 2003). 

 

Mr. Madduri Siva Subba Rao, Vice President

 

He is a 3rd generation advocate residing in Rajahmundry, with a standing of 44 years at the Bar Association and  offices at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, having worked as State Judicial Officer for short period.   He acted as elected member of AP State Bar Council for 10 years.  Handled hundreds of civil, criminal, matrimonial and wide variety of  cases before many courts and Tribunals in Andhra Pradesh.  Has been a senior active Rotarian and Mason for more than 25 years and held high offices in such International Social Service Organizations.  A Trustee of Old Age Home at Rajahmundry and Founder Trustee and Trustee of several Public Trusts. 

Mr. V.V. Kumar, Managing Director

A postgraduate in Personnel Management from TISS, Mumbai, with PG Diplomas in Hospital Management and Health Services Management with about 40 years of experience in the Management function including Manufacturing at senior levels of large corporate houses.  He is acclaimed for his passion for environmental protection and efforts in developing a total ecological system at NFCL’s Plant at Kakinada for achieving a National Award from the Government of India viz., Rajiv Gandhi Parthi Bhoomi Mitra Award and similarly environmental protection of NACL’s Plant at Srikakulam. He was also on the Hospital Development Committee of the Government General Hospital, Kakinada and Chairman of the Godavari Chapter of the National Institute of Personnel Management. He was also the founder Secretary of the Nagarjuna Educational Trust that established Akshra School, a CBSE affiliate, at Kakinada.

Mr. M. Narayya Choudary, Jt. Secretary

An Engineer with specialization in Electrical, Electronics & Communications Engineering from Osmania University and a successful businessman in automobile dealership including sales and service based at Guntur. 

Mr. Prasad J Chundru, Treasurer

An US qualified engineer and an MBA into various businesses based at Kakinada. Recipient of the Best SSI Entrepreneur Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh during 2002. Vice President of BREAD, a not for profit Society striving to improve education by providing scholarships to the needy and developing libraries in the Government run schools in A.P. and T.S.

 

 Mr. Thondepu V. Hanumantarao, Member

An engineer and a successful businessman in Vijayawada. Has been associated with eye care since 1980s. He is an active member of Lions Club, President elect of Walkers International and Chairman of Sri Sai Aradhana Kshetram, Siridi, Tirupati and Varanasi. Also associated with A.P. and Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce, Educational Institutions, Institution of Engineers and other Social & Religious Institutions.

Dr. Leela V. Raju, Member

After graduating from Brown University with a degree in Biology, she received her MD degree at Marshall University.  She completed an Ocular Pathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh.  She completed a Cornea, Anterior Segment and External Disease fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Before joining NYU, she was an Assistant Clinical Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. She is presently Ophthalmology Chief of Service at Bellevue Hospital and an associate professor at New York University Department of Ophthalmology.

Her clinical interests include ocular surface reconstruction, complicated cataract surgery, herpetic eye disease, and anterior segment reconstruction.

She has a strong interest in international ophthalmology and is part of the non-profit Eye Foundation of America improving eye care around the world and makes a yearly trip to India to visit Goutami Eye Institute in Rajahmundry, AP to see patients, perform surgery and teach.
